To know me is to know my love for shoes. They can either make your outfit or they can break your outfit. Which is why I like to use a simple method to make my shoes a cohesive part of my outfit. If you saw my Instagram Reel about my favorite color combo (pink and navy), then you heard me talk about how I chose my shoes (a navy and white tweed) because they pulled colors from my outfit (a white tank and navy pants). The shoes brought the whole outfit together because they were made up of colors I was already wearing. This is my No. 1 style hack for putting together effortless yet fabulous outfits. Some people may think it’s too matchy-matchy, but I disagree. I think it creates cohesion and order in your outfit, and it shows intention.
It’s important to create cohesion in an outfit. You don’t want to put on a pair of shoes that feel like they came out of left field. For example, I would never wear black shoes with this outfit. For one, they would be way too harsh against the light colored pants and aside from a very small amount of black in my scarf, I’m not wearing black at all. A nude shoe, however, would work and you can see me styling nude shoes with this outfit in my last post here.
For this outfit I started with a simple base, taken straight from my simple outfit formula in this post. I then layered on a jacket and shoes in corresponding shades and a silk scarf that also incorporated those colors. The beauty of this concept is that the colors don’t have to perfectly match. Your feet are a decent distant from your top or jacket, so no one will notice if the colors are slightly off!
If you’re feeling like you can’t recreate this outfit because you don’t own pink shoes or coral shoes, or anything of the sort, think again! There are a million different combos you could create with this concept. I happen to be a shoe collector so I have a lot of shoes that match my tops and jackets. However, a huge part of that is simply due to the fact that I’ve purchased the majority of my closet from one store: Ann Taylor. The beauty of this is that they tend to make pieces (shoes, accessories, tops, pants, etc.) in the same hues so even though these pieces were purchased in different years, they have very similar coloring.
