Iāve talked before about the importance of foundation pieces in your wardrobe in this post. If you start with strong basics, you can create any outfit you want. For the easiest outfit base, I like to pick a top and bottom in a similar or same color and then layer on accessories, a jacket or sweater, and a cute shoe.Ā This particular tank is the perfect layering piece that I used to sell to all of my customers when I worked in a store. Trust me when I tell you that you need it in every color!
P.S. Iām going to cover the importance of accessorizing (with before and after photos!) in a different post, so stay tuned!
First, let’s talk about the base of this outfit. I started with a winter white shell and light beige wide leg pants (which are very on trend this year!) paired with a light woven belt, nude sandals, and gold jewelry. In a perfect world I typically prefer my shoes and belt to be closer to matching, but we have to work with what we’ve got and this belt goes well with the pants and the top. The belt here is crucial as it helps to define my waist and break up the top and pants a little bit more. I used to work with a very chic lady who always wore a belt and taught me the importance of wearing them myself. They are definitely making a comeback, though it’s safe to say that a belt is a timeless classic and it’s worth investing in a few good ones that you can rotate through your closet.
Outfit Details: Tweed Jacket (sold out, similar, also love this one) // Mixed Media Shell // Crepe Wide Leg Pants // Woven Belt (old, similar here) // Necklace (old, similar)
For this first outfit, I went more dressy. This look would be perfect in both a business professional or business casual setting. The tweed jacket really dresses up the look and gives it a more formal vibe, which the sandals balance out for a business casual look (if your office allows dress sandals). Note that for business professional I would opt for a nude closed toe shoe like this kitten heel or this higher heel.
Outfit Details: Striped Sweater Jacket (sold out, also love this one and this one) // Mixed Media Shell // Crepe Wide Leg Pants // Woven Belt (old, similar here) // Necklace (old, similar)
For this second look, I chose to dress the outfit down with a striped sweater blazer. I love a good sweater blazer because you have the comfort and lightness of a sweater but with added details that you would typically see on a jacket. For example, this particular sweater is double-breasted, which is my favorite style of blazer. The nautical touch of the stripe is perfect for spring and summer but can easily be worn into the early fall as well.
Outfit Details: Off-White Denim Chore Jacket (sold out in this color, available in blue) // Mixed Media Shell // Crepe Wide Leg Pants // Woven Belt (old, similar here) // Necklace (old, similar)
For the final look I love the idea of an off-white denim jacket (or a true white denim like this one) for a more casual style. I also love that the denim jacket here and tweed jacket in the first outfit create a monochromatic look, which is always so chic and simple to pull off. If you want to look effortless and endlessly chic, hear me when I tell you to wear a monochromatic outfit! As you can see here, I’m not wearing all one identical color, just shades of off-white and beige, but it still creates a very simple yet cohesive outfit. Tonal dressing (dressing all in one tone) is such a simple method of dressing and I highly encourage you to try it the next time you’re staring at your closet wondering what to wear.
