Black and blue. A combination previously always said to be off-limits. A faux pas. A fashion rule one had to abide by, like no white after Labor Day. But I think it’s safe to say many of those old fashion rules have been put to rest. Enter, black and blue. Specifically, black and navy. In the photos in this post, you see me wearing both black and blue (though my pants are a little lighter than a true “navy”). The key is to make the combo look intentional. You don’t want to look like you got dressed in the dark and accidentally put on a black top with your navy pants, or vice versa. This is why my #1 tip for nailing this combo is to make it look intentional. I wore a black sweater, black shoes, and a black and white bag with my blue pants. You could also mix it up a little more and do a black shoe with a navy handbag.
The point is that you want to look like you chose the entire outfit on purpose. When paired correctly, a navy and black combo can be both chic and modern. Just remember that a large part of pulling off the look is owning it. You have to be confident in your outfit choice or everyone will question you. Truly that goes for any outfit, but especially one that might be seen as a little outside of the box.
