Faux leather is a trend that comes back year after year. It’s a great fall and winter staple because it easily elevates an outfit and makes you look instantly more chic/edgy/cool-girl depending on how you choose to wear it. I love faux leather because it can also be classic. It’s always a little unexpected, particularly when wearing faux leather pants, skirts, or dresses, and that’s what I love about it. This simple piece can take an outfit from simple and safe to ultra chic faster than you can say faux.
If you’re not ready to take the leap and wear a pair of faux leather pants just yet, might I suggest a faux leather skirt? I love this one because it’s a simple shift style that is very wearable. I chose a dark olive green over black because I’m loving earth-toned neutrals right now. I paired it with my all-time favorite turtleneck shell (old from J.Crew) which goes perfectly under everything. Remember this shacket from last week’s blog post? It’s extremely wearable and looks great with this skirt, especially when paired with my trusty Marc Fisher booties. On that note, invest in some high quality booties that will get you through years to come, and go with everything in your fall and winter wardrobe.
If you’re still not convinced that faux leather is for you, or that you “can” wear faux leather, I have an alternative. Coated denim is also a big trend this year and a great way to dip your toe into the world of faux leather. They have all of the things you love about your jeans, but are coated in a material that makes them look more like faux leather. I’m hoping to snag a pair this fall and if I do, I’ll show you how I wear them!
